MAINTENANCE

All carpets require maintenance to optimise wear life, performance and appearance retention. A carefully planned and executed maintenance programme will help to preserve the aesthetic and functional benefits of textile floorcoverings, and will maximise the return on this expensive investment. Regular maintenance costs money but will pay for itself by extending the carpet's working life and deferring replacement costs.

This programme should be considered at the time of carpet selection and must be implemented immediately after installation.
It is more effective to maintain the installation from day one on a planned basis than to carry out major restorative cleaning when the carpet becomes excessively soiled.

The performance of any carpet is dependent on several factors

• Construction and colour
• Effective barrier matting
• Correct installation
• Planned maintenance

Textile floorcoverings should be maintained in accordance with the code of practice for maintenance of textile floorcoverings.

Included are recommendations for each of the following:
• Use Quality Dirt Off Walk-off/barrier mats
• Vacuuming
• Correct installation
• Pile lifting (for cut piles)
• Spot cleaning
• Interim cleaning
• Restorative cleaning

The programme establishes cleaning frequencies on a daily, weekly, monthly or longer cycle basis for types of cleaning systems applicable to specific areas of the building.
