CARPET CARE
To keep your Van Dyck carpet looking great for years, follow these guidelines.
- A routine of regular vacuuming, professional periodic cleaning and immediate removal of spots and stains should start as soon as your carpet is laid.
- Fluff caused by loose fibres left in the pile during manufacturing will gradually settle with use and vacuuming.
- Loose threads should never be pulled. Cut them off immediately to stop them being pulled by the vacuum cleaner.
- Protect your carpet from direct sunlight by using sun-filters or drawing the curtains.
- Lay down scatter rugs in heavy traffic areas, particularly when it is raining.
- Protect your carpet from sharp edges that could damage the pile.
- Avoid over-wetting. Make sure pot plants are in drip trays.
- Walk-off mats at entrances will trap dirt and prevent it being walked onto fitted carpets.
- Have your carpets cleaned professionally every 12-18 months.
- Use a good quality vacuum cleaner with a strong suction action. Vacuum slowly and empty the vacuum bag regularly
- Vacuum regularly (at least three times a week, daily in high traffic areas).
Removing Spots and Stains
Quick action is the best remedy. Remove as much of the offending material from the carpet with a spoon if it is thick or sticky. If the stain is wet, blot with a paper towel and apply pressure with the heel of your hand. Do not rub!
Consult the stain removal chart for the correct procedure. Keep the following materials handy: dry-cleaning fluid (solvent), ammonia, nail polish remover, mineral turpentine, white vinegar, alcohol, carpet detergent, dry powder cleaner.
